2nd Friday Art Walk

Host: The Fifth Avenue Spa

Friday, September 10th, 5pm-8pm, we will feature our "Artista" of the month, Luz Elena Castro, photographer and photojournalist. Luz Elena's career has taken her all over the globe for the last 25 years. Today, however, she spends most of her time in Marin where in addition to practicing her craft, she provides photography lessons to immigrants. Her recent work has included an exhibition documenting homeless Sonoma County seniors, and training members of West Marin's Latino community to be photojournalists, leading to community projects and exhibitions such as "Far from Home" and "Who Opens the Doors of the Town in the Morning".

In her artist statement, Luz Elena shares, "Since the beginning of my career, I have felt a special connection with the forgotten people of the world. With photos of their faces, dramas, and daily life, I have tried to call people's attention to them. In spite of their situation, poverty, abandonment, and misery, there is a strength that comes out of their spirits. I strive to capture it."
